Fitness and Food

At the beginning of last week I decided that we really needed to focus on staying healthier by working out more and eating better. We have already been eating somewhat healthy (emphasis on somewhat) and working out daily, but we could be doing a lot better! It is kind of one of those situations where you could be doing worse or you could be doing better. So we are trying to do better!!

Needless to say I have been obsessed with trying new healthy recipes and working out!!

Working out...

We started the Spartacus workout a few weeks ago. This will be our fourth week doing the workouts. It has been going great so far; besides the fact that it is absolutely killer!! It involves doing 10 different exercises for a minute each with 15 seconds of rest time in between each exercise. Then you repeat this two more times (3 total). There is a men's version and a women's version. I have been participating in the men's version so Tyler and I can do our workouts together. With the exception of one week when he was out of town. You do the workout 3X/week so on the other days we have been running, usually in between 2-4 miles right now! (today we did 4.12 yay!) We are working on getting that up a little!

Food... (my favorite)

I have started reading this blog that I admit I have a slight obsession with. She has some really great recipes and food ideas. I have been most obsessed with her smoothie tutorial. This has allowed me to make my own smoothies with the things I like AND I actually stay full until lunch time woo hoo! Anyways it is a great way to make a healthy, nutritious breakfast!

I was a little hesitant about using spinach even
though I had heard about it so much with smoothies.
Here are some other healthy things I put together this and last week...

Turkey wrap with lots of veggies!

Kale "chips"

This is my favorite for 3 reasons:
1. It was delicious
2. It somewhat showcases the new table stain :)
3. Macy wants a bite soo bad!!
Question of the day... When you are working on your fitness, do you focus on the scale or how you look and feel?

Weekend Project!

First off, I hope everyone has had a great Monday! Mine is going great so far!

We had a great weekend! I tackled another project for the house that I am pretty excited about!!

I found this table at a thrift store nearby and have been wanting to refinish it for a while now! Finally got around to it this past weekend and I am so happy with how it turned out!

My great find!

As you can see, it had a few dings and scratches I had to sand out before staining.

The finished product! Yay!
All in all it was a pretty easy project! I am even thinking about doing our dining room table now!

Is anyone else working on a DIY project right now?

DIY Diaper Cake

This past weekend I went to see my sister for her last baby shower! I was beyond excited because well I am ALWAYS excited to see my sis and because I was helping plan the shower with her sister-in-laws! Although I was planning long distance, it was so much fun! (Especially since it was for my sister and Carter)

I wanted to share a DIY project I did for the shower! I decided to make a diaper cake. I had done this once before but I wanted it to be a little bit different. Since she is having a boy she does not like anything with bows or anything that is remotely "girly." So I thought that I needed to make a clean, simple, classic cake with no bows!

First I got all of my supplies together:
Diapers
Bottle of Baby Lotion
Bottle
Ribbon
Rubberbands

*I do not like to use glue on the diapers so I rubber-band them together so no diaper is wasted!*

After that I started rolling up each individual diaper, keeping it together with a small rubber-band. (I used about 68 diapers total) After you roll up all the diapers, then you start to put everything together. You start with the bottle of baby lotion and add diapers around like so:

On the bottom layer you will do two rows around like you see in the picture and then one more around to make 3 full rows. Then you will continue with the middle layer. This layer will have two rows around the lotion bottle. Next you will set the baby bottle on top and wrap a row of diapers around the bottle to make your third/top layer of the cake. Here are some pictures of adding layers and playing around with some ribbon options:

After you get that top layer on then you can add the ribbon and make sure everything looks perfect! I ended up using three different kinds of ribbon: a 1.5 inch green, 1.5 inch navy w/ pattern and a 7/8 inch light blue. Here is the the finished product:

And here we are...
